What Would Happen If… we had a scavenger hunt!

Etsy’s September Merchandising article is out now on Etsy’s blog.  I always wonder if it is better to do a variety of items in one treasury (i.e. take a few items from every category) or if it is better to stick with one (i.e. do an entire vampire theme treasury).  Both ways can be fun.  But I challenged myself for fun to make a treasury exclusively from these 16 bullet points.

If you would like to play along and see what you are inspired to make… the only rules are you must use every bullet.  You can put them in any order you want.  I call it an Etsy Scavenger Hunt

  • Personalization: Monograms, initials, text, numbers, zodiac, constellations, portraits, custom labels, stamps, fingerprints and family trees.
  • Natural History: Woodland forest themes and animals, namely birds, owls, squirrels, hedgehogs, chipmunks, bunnies, butterflies, feathers, nests, eggs, acorns, leaves, trees, branches, woodgrain, and natural colors.
  • Lockets, secret hiding places, skeleton keys, arrows, diamonds, paper cuts, silhouettes, fortune cookies, wishbones, constellations, fortune telling.
  • Large scale vintage and handmade paper maps, botanical and anatomy charts.
  • Upcycled lights, lamps, exposed bulbs, and chandeliers.
  • Creative gadget cases, docking stations and accessories.
  • Bike caddies, baskets, and creative accessories.
  • Shabby chic decor and accessories.
  • Video game inspired references.
  • Writable chalkboard surfaces.
  • Wall and laptop decals.
  • All things steampunk.
  • Vintage cameras.
  • Braided hair.
  • Mermaids.
  • Peacocks.

Here is my experiment!

  1. You are always so creative and just love a challenge! Me too. I hope time permits me to play. I am truly disappointed that braided hair has made it in the Etsy list for 2 months now….geez. In fact there are certainly a lot of “renewals” in this list! I may have to do a satire – the opposites of these 16 LOL!

  2. That could be a great next challenge! Straight Hair, Un-natural History, Roosters, etc…
Yes, I feel like Etsy’s merchandising choices are just held over. And try searching for braided hair, you don’t find much.

  3. That sounds like fun, but I wonder if very many buyers would be looking for a list like that. I often try to group together something that might give a buyer the idea to put together a theme for gifting, etc. Do you all have a take on that?

    Thanks 🙂

  4. In general I would say that a buyer would like to see gift guide or a category treasury. Seems like Etsy doesn’t take that into account when picking the front page (a huge miss in my opinion). They feature some really random unpractical things. I literally saw a listing for rocks someone had picked up and were selling on Etsy. I mean that shows that Etsy likes a well curated treasury for the front page.
